We are going through a tribunal with a member of our staff who claims to have been sacked by text, the phone she says the text has been sent from was cut off on the day and for a week after she claims to have received it, T mobile have sent a letter to confirm this but she has shown the message to a solicitor and it does say it was sent from the number in question. Does anyone know how this has been done? Is there a way some one can have a text on their phone and make it appear to have come from a number which it hasnt?

  1. Common mate just admit you boo booed

  2. yes someone called lets say Linda, could of sent the text, but on the phonebook in the phone, change the name linda and write in a phone number instead 123456789 and the message will show up as if it was from dis number?? i dunno tho lol

  3. Also possible through Internet based SMS. E.g. sending SMS via Skype. She would first need to have registered your phone with Skype, but she could have done that months ago, she would need to have access to your phone for a few minutes while she registered.

After that, any SMS she sent via Skype would have had your number as the source.

This is just one way, another contributer to this post has given another. There are probably dozens of other ways.

T-Mobile can check their CDRs (Call Detail Records) on their Short Message Centre to see if this SMS came from a phone or from the Internet. If from the Internet, then it definiely won't be your phone.

If you deny you sent the SMS, then you have a very solid case in a tribunal.
