  1. by shutting down their plants, by diverting their investment in retraining the people in other activities and by investing their resources in nation building economic ativities.

  3. I don't know about building a strong nation, but governments really love their take of the tobacco taxes. In fact, they're addicted to them.

  4. The taxes gained from smoking sure is a big help to the government.  

    Ironic that the government subsidizes the tobacco growers and then sews the makers of cigarettes.  

    RJR and most others are no longer owned by anyone in the USA.  Japan and other nations now have those companies and make a lot of money from them.

    Good aggressive public relations, funding of community-oriented causes, all the while slowly slinking out the back door from coffin nails to containerized freight.
