  1. By using the search box to read the answers given to the last 159 people that asked this same question.

  2. I would use a self-publishing company as a start. Use www.lulu.com. I used it, and it was very easy to publish my first novel.

  3. there are a myriad online communities (deviantart.com, a few through myspace) available that allows you to post your work and have it critiqued; hone the piece as well as you can, and get writer's market.  start with magazines and poetry/lit rags, unless you want to take that chance and get a book published without too much of a writing resume.  there are a myriad magazines devoted giving pointers, and they can ususally have classifieds with magazines calling for work.  open mic nights if there are any in your community.  figure out what you want to write- stories, poems, novels, cookbooks- and learn the market inside out.  find out what they are publishing, find out where you'll be a good fit.  always have people critique your work, and there is a large group of mags and publishers who like seeing new names, as long as you take your time with the piece.  look into the book guerilla marketing for writers
