My wedding dress has the pick up skirt on the back with apliques at each pick up spot. How can the dress be bustled so that the detail of the back does not get lost? I would like for the back to still look the same just with out the train. By the way the train is nor pick up but has desing and details. Getting some pictures would be great.

  1. take it to an alterations specialist. My train has some beautiful detailing and beading and the alterations lady bustled it in the middle of the train where there was no beading. This is usually the standard. They will put the bustle in the center on the outside so that you just pick it up and put it up and then the detailed back part will hang down over your butt in a nice shape. Trust me it looks GREAT! You can even bustle it on the sides and do different layers of bustling. My alterations specialist demonstrated some different techniques and I chose the one I thought was the prettiest. Don't worry about it, you will still be able to see the details. Just trust the seamstress.

  2. Here's a website that explains different types of bustles and how to achieve them, with pictures.

  3. I would actually take it in to the store that you bought it from, or even someone who does alterations. I'm sure they could tell you how it should be done (the right way, for that particular dress). Good luck!

  4. I am a wedding dress alterations specialist. I have successfully bustled the pick up skirt wedding dress many times.  Most of the time this style is better done with an under bustle also called the french bustle.  When done right the end result is worth it when the train flows with the front of the dress when it was bustled up.

You can use the bridal shop seamstress or look for an independent sewing professional who specializes in bridal alterations or wedding dressmaking.
