  1. Very easy.hundreds do,including myself [allthough i am English].You must of course have a visa, but all you do is extend your tourist visa to a 6 month biz visa when you arive [i have heard that you can now get a 12 month one,i will find out next time i re-new],this is also easy, you just go to a travel shop and they will do it all for you.You will have the same difficulties here as you would face in any part of the world, finding a place to live, setting up your pension ect.If you need more detailes  and have spercific questions, then send me an e-mail.

  2. You don't really have to do anything. Just get back to Vietnam, then register to any local police deparment that close to your house or where you plan to live. Police will ask you what reasons that you decide to live in vietnam permanently and other information about you (such as name, date of birth, current citizen, any friends or family that living in vietnam, and more) because they want to keep track on you for the first few months or year. They need to know what you do specifically. Then maybe you might have to pay a small fee (I'm not sure about this). That's it. You can enjoy your life after that. Good luck!!

  3. you should check with the us embassy there in vietnam and check what the rules are. i imagine it will be about the same as in the philippines. you can live there on a tourist visa and just keep renewing it up to a year. then you would probably have to leave the country for atleast one day and then return.

  4. There are lots of details that make living in VN permanently  a bit difficult. You need visas - a resident visa pretty much requires a Vietnamese spouse I believe. Foreigners can not buy houses.

It would be worth your while to go and visit, and talk with people there that are living there long-term.

A friend of mine in Ha Noi recently sent me an e-mail with a link to an article that the govt of VN was thinking of allowing certain classes of foreigners to live there / buy homes - but the details were still being developed. And naturally I don't recall the details.
