They do not have all four characterisitics a country must have;

1) territory 2) population 3) government 4) sovereignty.

Sovereignty is the exclusive right to have control over an area of governance, people, or oneself. A sovereign is the supreme lawmaking authority. None of these countries have realtions with any other country except through the United

Countries are split into two groups, dependant and independant. If they do not have all these things they must be dependant on another country. The United Kingdom fulfills the criteria of a country so why is it not? Is it just the pride of the people which makes them remain a country?

  1. It will take a single referendum to grant independence to scotland and wales..and for all your waffle... thats all the "charachteristics" they need frankly..

  2. Scotland has territory

    Scotland has population

    Scotland has its own Parliament (the ONLY country in the UK to have its OWN parliament)

    Scotland retains its own legal system, its own education system and its own laws. The Health Service is different in Scotland than elsewhere in the UK, as are its universities, local government, etc.

    Scotland will have its full sovereignty restored when we regain our independence from the UK. (Please note that, contrary to the statement in your question, the sovereign has NO lawmaking authority in Scotland!)

    You think I jest ? Then wait for the outcome of the Glasgow East by-election this month. Note the damage that the Scottish National Party will do to the "safe" Labour majority of 13,500.

    At the present, England is dependent upon Scotland for cheap oil. That will change with independance and the abuses that the English have imposed on the Scots since 1707 will cease.
