Question:

How can anyone blame Fast-Food restaurants for their obesity?

It's absurd to blame fast-food restaurants for the way you look. They are intended to serve you quick, cheap food when you need it. No where is there a rulebook forcing you to eat there several days a week. I was shocked to learn of a woman sueing a restaurant because it made her fat. Thoughts?

Is it the person's fault or the restaurants?

  1. Because they are too lazy to blame themselves.

  2. It's the person's fault.  The problem with people today is no one wants to take personal responsibility for problems that they caused for themselves.  The other problem is that more people have their hands out and are trying to get rich quick by sueing someone over anything and everything.  If people start getting fined big bucks for frivolous lawsuits, a lot of this nonsense would stop.

  3. The person who blames Fast Food is the same person who would blame society or their parents for their miserable existence. These kind of people are probably too lazy to work so they look for the easy ride by suing others . The same goes for the tobacco companies. It is your responsibility to decide whether you smoke or not to. Do you sue the State of Arizona because you decided to jump the Grand Canyon on your RV. If you jump the Grand Canyon expect to die.

  4. the person. life is full of choices, some we make are good some we make are bad. there is no one to blame but ourselves for the choices we make.

  5. I think it's funny the people answering assume this is happening in America.  And though I'm in Australia, where maccas are plentiful, i'm happy to also make this assumption.

I'm not sure exactly what the damages are.  How can one be compensated for being fat?  Proving liability would be difficult, since there would be doubt as to what contributed to her being overweight.

I'm sure we're all responsible for how much energy we take in.  Perhaps she never learnt healthy eating habits.  Maybe she can sue the government or her school for failing to teach her energy input vs output, and all about the healthy food pyramid.  We were drilled that in primary and high school, and our government is constantly promoting healthy lifestyle habits through t.v. ads with catchy campaigns and slogans.

As for people making their own choices, manufacturers are required to provide nutritional information on products.  This assists people to make the right choices.  Mislabeling or promoting something as healthy when it's not leads people to make wrong choices and get fat.  Remember that Seinfeld with the non-fat yoghurt and consider whether that busines is liable for damages, if there are any.  I believe maccas try to tone down just how unhealthy there food is, featuring images of salad ingredients in fattening foods being eaten by skinny people(smiling and surrounded by freinds).  Constant advertising that pays no mind to the poor nutritional value, instead it's 'come try our new "Delightful" range', or even though you've tried everything on the menu, with desert, why not pop in for breakfast.

If this practice is contributing to an unhealthy society then there should be guidlines introduced.  If new advertising standards and display of nutrition content help to curb the epidemic it should be introduced.  If current practices are misleading then perhaps Mickey Dee's are liable.  The seriousness of having high cholesterol and diabetes should at least permit a plaintiffs case be heard.

  6. It’s the persons fault. ONLY an idiot would blame the fast foods. I mean, c’mon.Nobody is holding a gun up to your head and saying,’ EAT THE CHEESEBURGER OR DIE!!!

  7. I was searching for the answer I gave to this question a while ago, but couldn't find it.  So here goes again.

Ultimately, an individual must be held legally responsible for his/her own behavior, else our entire legal system will fail.

However, McDonald's isn't without some fault here.  I think most people underestimate just how bad McDonald's is for you.  It's practically poison.  I think McDonald's has an obligation to explain to consumers this fact.

Put another way, if I manufacture pen caps that occasionally explode when chewed on, isn't it my responsibility to explain to my consumers that my pen caps occasionally explode?

I don't think a single individual can realistically claim that they were unable to resist eat McDonald's food, and thus McDonalds is to blame for their obesity.  However, I would LOVE to see a class-action lawsuit where the claim is that McDonalds markets and sell an inherently harmful product.

  8. i agree thay can`t do that u are correct

  9. We all make choices and if someone chooses to over eat then it has to be their fault. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions these days. Much better to blame it on someone else so you can continue indulging your bad habits be it over eating, drugs or alcohol. Stand up I say and take control of your life. How's that?

  10. It is the fast foods responsibility to provide a product that is fast and hot, but it is also their responsibility to be honest in what they are giving you for your $. They do add chemicals that do help to blow you up! It is (in this day and time) your responsibility to educate yourself on what you are possibly consuming when you decide to eat these foods! Bon Appetite!

  11. I agree its the person's fault

  12. def the persons

  13. The person definetly!!

Sorry, fat people are fat because of what/how much they eat.

(if they have a medical reason then I understand)

Skinny people are  skinny because of what/how they eat.

    Its all a personal choice.

Its for the same reason people blame the gun instead of the shooter.

  14. its all about choices. Mcdonalds isnt to blame for obesity. If your worried its unhealty then go to fazzolis and get a salad or something. Dont blame other people for your problems. It seriously takes a idiot to say that mcdonalds never told you it was unhealthy. God gave you a brain use it!

  15. I think its the persons fault for getting fat. But the restaurants fault for selling bad for you food. It's disgusting how many calories those things have. I personally haven't had Taco Bell all year because it makes me crave it more and become fat. But, it's both of their faults. You are right that they don't force you to eat there but everyone likes cheap stuff. Even  Bill Gates eats there I bet. You just have to compromise: If I eat this I need to exercise for __ hours or __ mins. Sonic drinks are what kill people though.

  16. Every one knows that it is the persons fault but the American way is to blame some one else and SUE!! Only in America!! Don't get me wrong,I am proud to be an American but anymore this is not the land of the free. It's a shame that we are fighting for freedom some where else when we are not even free to eat what we want, drink what we want, watch what we want, raise our children like we feel we should,And ETC<ETC<ETC!!! And then they make us feel like this is what we want!! It's a strange situation if you ask me.Sorry I went on and on and all the question was,was about fast food. Only in America!!!

  17. it's the persons fault of course...but nowadays you can sue anyone and anything.

  18. It is the persons fault for getting fat. They are the ones putting all that bad food in them all the time. If they would stop being lazy and cook. They wouldn't be fat.

  19. It is the American way these days...Blame others...we have become a babysitter society...why take self responsibility when you can blame another.

  20. It's definitely the persons fault. I mean these fast food places do offer salads so no one is saying that they have to get a whopper or a big mac, lol. I think it's funny how people blame the fast food industry. I'm the victim of a big mac attack!! Lol. People these days. Lmao.
