I was looking up renting houses and apartments in Australia and everything seemed crazy expensive. I was just wondering how the everyday Joe can afford it.

  1. Wow - is that a fully furnished penthouse price with maid service you are looking up LOL.

I pay $300 for a 3 bedroom house right on the beach in Queensland.

  2. Some can but I would think $350-$400/week for a house would be the average.

You maybe looking at an exclusive area.

  3. thats way too expensive.. I could never afford that.. If I were to work, i couldnt even make that much in a week. Where i live.. apartments can be rented for as low as $180 - $300 per week.. Even some newer apartments are that price for a 2 bedroom, or one bedroom... I live in Sydney.. and the closer to the city the houses are, its more expensive.

$700 a week is just crazy.. most likely they are already making alot of money..

  4. Thats why people sharehouse.

  5. Most averge Australians dont pay that much. You most probably looked up renatl prices in the areas that you have heard of, like Sydney or Melbourne. All the big cities.

This site lets you look for rental properties all over Australia.

I will show you the difference in prices, depending where you look.

Soo, here is an rental property in the middle of the city (Brisbane, QLD) i am using this area as an example because i know the area.

Its pretty much a standard 3 bedroom place. In the heart of the city, so its eay to get to work, great for night life and basically prime real estate. Thats why they charge $1500 pw.

on the other hand, this is a rental property about 45 minutes out of the city, also a 3 bedroom. And its really quite easy to get into the city by train or car if you wished, but its not in the Heart of the "city". This is the kinda of rent price an avarege Australian would look at paying .

Yes its, $260 pw!!! over $1200 per week less than the one in the city!!!

Its not all that expensive if you decide to stay away from the big cities. Especially if you share with a friend, that would half that to $130 per week and if you can fill all three bedrooms then thats like $86 per week between the 3 people. You will usually find its the company big wigs or people who own their own business that rent at those prices. 1, because they can afford it, and 2, because alot of their work involves moving around the country and they write it off as a tax expense anyway!!

  6. Thats what i was wondering too!!!...I want to move to Australia but how can they pay so much per week..I only pay 900 a mth, even at 300 a week thats 1200 dollars!....

is there any places at like 200 a week haha...

  7. Prices depend on the area, but $700 would be something really good.

Average rent for a 3 bed house in Western Sydney is about $250-$300 pw.

2 bed places can be obtained for under $200 pw, but they don't stay empty for long.

Here are some examples in NSW from realestate.com.au

    St Clair $290 p.w. 5 Bedrooms 1 Bathroom 2 Car Spaces

    St Clair $260 p.w. 3 Bedrooms 1 Bathroom 1 Car Spaces

    Deniliquin $95 p.w. 2 Bedrooms 1 Bathrooms 1 Car Spaces

The "average Joe" does not normally live in the top quality, or best positioned, houses though.

Look at this link for a $700pw property:

  8. I live in London. That sounds pretty reasonable to me!

  9. It's tough, alot of people have to work 2 jobs if they live alone and it doesn't help when you live in one of the most exspensive cities in the world either.
