How can boxers starve themselves in the run up to a fight yet still find the strength to train?

If I miss a meal I'm struggling. How do they manage it yet still train at a high intensity?

  1. It takes a special kind of person to do what these guys do, from the hard work to the willingness & sacrifices they make. Their is no other sport that requires so much dedication, the lucky fellows have someone who can give them good advice a "dietician & nutritionist". Today my fighters are lucky enough to have this, I watch every meal they eat, every drink & I keep track of every supplement they take. I do this by keeping them with me for the last 3 weeks prior to a fight. They do get cranky because the social part of their lives doesn't exist anymore. For these 3 weeks leading up to a fight they have no friends nothing. Add in the dieting & the hard work 4 hours in the morning & 3 hours in the evening & yah they get cranky but they are also very focused & all they want to do is fight..

    About 6 or 7 years back some of my guys would starve themselves to make weight literally for 2 or 3 days straight before weigh ins, before I started housing them. I still see this today, fighters in really bad shape, but some guys really want this & manage because of this want.

    I don't recommend it but its what they do. In most cases they have 24 hours to re-hydrate & as long they didn't struggle to bad they should be good. They eat the right meals & drink the right drinks after they weigh in which is very important.

  2. Boxers are superfit and train hard. Through diet they reach a certain weight then cut back near the weigh in. Cut out the carbs and they reach the weight limit. In the ring they can be half a stone over the limit. A good carb blast before the fight and they are more than ready.

  4. they don't starve thereself's they just eat healthy and train hard if fight time comes and they are overweight they just sweat out waterweight a day or two before weigh in's
