  1. Go to college and get a degree in Aerospace Engineering and Design, then go back to college and get another degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.  Maybe then you'll be able to answer your own question.

  2. There are several kits you can buy to build your own.  Check out kitplanes.com and/or their magazine.

Food for thought:  If you are the 'manufacturer' you have cradle to grave liability for the craft.  Doing a homebuilt is ok if you are going to be the only operator, but reselling leaves you open to lawsuits.

  3. It depends on the type of airplane that you want to build.  If you do not know a lot about aerodynamics, it may be difficult for you to build a plane on your own, you would also have to follow FAA construct guidelines.  There are airplane kits that you can buy for probably about $8,000 with all the parts, the only thing is you have to get your own engine.  I have seen a lot of people use a Volkswagen engine with the kits.  If you are talking about model airplanes, there are a lot of hobby shops around that have airplane kits you can buy.

  4. Check out the Experimental Aircraft Association at www.eaa.org.  They have lots of information, plans, sources for materials and kits, and general learning aids.

    Have fun.

  5. Become an A&P, with a specialty in airframes.  Buy a kit (make sure you've got lots of money) and spend several years putting it together.  Get your pilot's certificate, get the airplane certificated by the FAA, and start flying...
