How can can a mantis live for without food.?

I have had a praying mantis for almost a month now, and he has been doing fine. But for 4 days, he has not eaten his food (a grass hopper, which is what he always eats). I've noticed before in the past that he won't eat for a day or two before he sheds. He just shed his skin last night, but still won't eat (I even put another grass hopper in the tank). He has been getting water. . . just won't eat, and I'm affraid for how long he will go for with out eating. Can anyone help me? I know hand feeding them will work, but I've tried that in the past, only to loose a grass hopper leg in the process. =/

So really. . . can anyone tell me how long a mantis will live for without eating?!

I don't know exactly but i have one right now the i feed as much as possible but it has not eaten it 3-4 days. So yours should be fine for a little bit longer. Oh yeah try finding a tiny mantis to feed it!
