  1. Cats dont GO rabies.  Cats GET rabies.

Rabies is an infectious disease of dogs, cats, and other animals, transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected animal and usually fatal if prophylactic treatment is not administered: caused by an RNA virus.

  2. if they get bitten by a rabbid animal.Rabbies is not good!

  3. rabies is a disease in animals but it can only catch rabies if bitten by a rabbid animal

some of the more commonly known things with rabies is viciousness and foaming at the mouth which is a good reason to get your animal vaccinated every know and then

  4. Rabies most commonly found in bats but all mammals can get it if they are bitten by an animal that has it and is symptomatic. It's a disease that attacks the nervous system and will cause paralysis, comas and eventually death. The reason why people associate it with foaming around the mouth is because the muscles you use to swallow become paralyzed and you can no longer swallow saliva. People with rabies would become dehydrated since they couldn't even swallow water and would often get agitated if people offered them water which is why they call it hydrophobia (fear of water).

There are vaccines out there that will prevent an animal from getting rabies if they are bitten and if your cat goes outside and hunts he/she should definitely get one. There is no way to test an animal for rabies unless you euthanize them because you need to take a sample from their brain to look for the virus. If you think your pet has rabies you need to call animal control and isolate the animal so that no one gets bitten while you wait to see if it develops symptoms.

That said, rabies is not that common in domestic animals in the US and the majority of cases are associated with wild animals such as bats, rats, possums and raccoons.

  5. A cat does not "go rabies" and rabies is a virus. There are vaccines against it, but once a cat gets it, the cat won't lose it. It is a neuroinvasive virus and causes inflammation of the cranium.

What that really means is that the cat will "go mad". Depression, aggression, inability to sleep, drink, or urinate, and hallucinations are symptoms of rabies.

I've never heard of a cat getting rabies before (it generally exists among bats, dogs, and skunks) but it has to be through blood transmission. So unless the cat was mating with a dog, or the cat was actively sharing needles, it had to be bitten to contract rabies.

Rabies results in a coma which leads to death.

  6. Cats can't go rabies.

Rabies - A disease cought by a cat being bitten by a raccoon or any other animal that's rabid (rabid - Has rabies). This can also show up in people. It is most commonly cought the same way, or from an organ transplant, if you get an organ from a rabid person.  You can also get it from a kiss.

Effects of rabies - People - Paralysis, anxiety, confusion, abnormal behavior. The later effects include jaw paralysis (not being able to eat), always being thirsty thist never being quenched, and foaming at the mouth. Few humans survived, as death occours in 2 - 10 days. If you do survive, you are left with severe brain damage.

Effects of Rabies - Cats - All of the same symptoms but with collapsing, biting, and scratching. Cats normally die within 2 - 6 days.

Prevention - You and other animals can get vaccinated. Other prevention methods include - Don't get bitten, kissed, or scratched by anything/anyone with rabies.

Hope your cat lives if it has rabies!

  7. if any animal gets bit by a rabid animal(mean it has rabies) it will definitley get rabies. Symptoms of rabies are if it has white stuff around it's mouth, and white stuff comes out of it's mouth. Rabies is a disease that can possibly kill you, and people AND animals can get it
