basically there is a juice drink in an oriental grocery store that was from china, and the ingredients and nutrition label was written so small that each character looked like a blob. so I am wondering how chinese people can read it, because unlike english, chinese has many lines in one character.

another example is this chinese song on youtube, it has subtitles that are so small that I cant even tell the lines apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3IHthfFJLc

  1. theunbreakable88, you make me sick! I'm sorry to see such an answer in yahoo answers.

  2. Chinese don't read every single line. They read by context. Same as the English don't read letters, they read complete words (and therefore easily overlook spelling errors). But maybe the stuff on that food item is not really healthy and they don't want you to read it.

For movies, when you get a HDTV movie down to youtube size then you won't be able to read the subs.

  3. Well i don't think anyone chinese will try to read anything so small, stuff on the nutrition label is probably put there but not expected to be read. Some older chinese also carry around a magnifying glass...

  4. You eyesight is going, time for you to get glasses....

Btw the subtitles on the video are not clear to start with but yes I can make them out.

  6. that is a very good question! Well, arent like Chinese people like a lot smarter than Americans? I would think that's why.

  7. Because they are small too. Smaller people have smaller eyes, which can see smaller bits of text that the American eye might miss.
