How can conjunctivitis be spread?

I went to the ER today after accidentally I shot a substance in my eyes that had bleach. They cleaned my eye and told me that because of everything that my eye went through that day I had developed conjunctivitis. I have severe discharge from my eye and its all swelled up and very red. I want to know if this can be spread by kissing or any other form of contact?

Also, in the ER they give me antibiotic for the eye to put drops every 2 hours should I do put it also on my other eye to prevent from it spreading? Any advice would be good.

  1. It is really contagious if it is an infection. Kissing might not do it, per say, but it couls if you had contact with your eyes and touched the other person and they then touched their eye. Usually most doctors do prescribe using the drops in both eyes. You should call and ask them for the directions that they intended. I would make an appointment with my regular eye doctor, though, and have the ER forward everything that they saw and did for your doctor's records.
