How can convince my dad to get a puppy?

Well I'm almost 16 and at home we have 2 cats and a hedgehog. I've tried very hard to persuade my parents to get a puppy. I take good care of the cats, and my hedgehog but my dad said that I'm going off to college soon (I'm going to be in grade 10 this fall ...) and that he'd wind up taking care of it. Also, we go on vacations every summer and he said it's hard to find someone to watch them, etc. etc. My mom is okay with it - as long as my dad agrees, they both had dogs growing up and they've both said that they love them. Is there anything I can do to convince them?

Sorry but your dad is right on this one.

Just because they love dogs doesnt mean they want to deal with the care an expenceof one..  expecially in a few years when you go off to college.  Dogs easily live 12-17+ years.  College seems like a long way off to you.. but its not really that far away!

Nope. Your father is right. Only a small number, less than 10 i think, of colleges allow dogs. Why should your parents be stuck with an animal that YOU wanted for 4 years while you are off at school?

Wait til you are out of college or at least have your own place, time and money for a dog and get one then.

Nope. Their house, their rules. And they are right. So many kids get their puppies then leave the home and who gets stuck with the dog? The parents! It's a valid argument and you will just have to accept it.

1.analyse the time you have for a dog. a dog is NOT like a cat,cats dont require the care dogs need . it is alot of work. cats use sand box & if you have a dog well they use the back yard or a walk out side.

2. you still have 3 years .

3. when you are away hire a pet sitter or even better go to petsmart , they have pet hotels. ( im not saying its AWESOME , but its a great alternative when it comes to leaving your pet home )
