I need to take pictures of merchandise to sell online so a bright atmosphere is important to capture the correct colors to display. I don't want to do it outdoors due to all the neighbors and lack of privacy. My lighting isn't so bright inside. What can I do to create better lighting? My regular lamp doesn't seem to do the trick.

  1. You need to get a studio light kit- it will come with 2 light stands and 2 lights 250 watts with a light temperature of 3200 degrees Kelvin.  Your household light bulbs will produce an orange cast and will not be bright enough.  For product shots "hot lights" is the way to go, unless its food.  I bought mine 3 years ago for $125.00 so, you will make that back fairly quickly.

  2. You can buy a good 500 watt construction lamp from one of the home stores like Home Depot for under $40

Here is a link to something that may be just what you need.

  3. If your merchandise is small enough to use a little light tent (either bought or home made), then just get two or more desk lamps, but make very sure to buy full spectrum (aka daylight) bulbs for them, it makes a HUGE difference.

Here are instructions on how to make your own light tent: http://mcgoffs.net/home-made-light-tent
