Global warming is a big issue. Untimely rains, floods, tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes so on and so forth are all contributing to the fact that the world’s climate is changing. The glaciers are melting, the temperatures are rising and average
sea level is increasing. People all around the world hold rallies, they protest and debate about the need of making the environment greener and healthier. They fight for the rights of animals and they put forward suggestions on how to save extinct species.
But in contrast, the world remains oblivious of the fact that sports are contributing in the global change. Sports are any physical activity which may or may not affect the environment in a faulty way. There always remain a certain conflict between the sports
and the environment as there are many deep-rooted social challenges that are inflicted upon the changes in environment. The way a physical activity has been changed can be correlated to the fact that the total population of the world has increased.
The increase in leisure activities have forced the spread of activities to larger areas which has been claiming more land naturally posing threat to the numerous plants and animals’ species and the loss of landscapes. Not only are the natural resources being
exhausted but the non-renewable reserves such as emission of harmful pollutants could also contribute to this problem. But at the same time, the advantages for such sports cannot be ignored as their need is faced in today’s world the most from health’s point
of view.
Such conflicting views need to be addressed in order to develop sustainable sport that should be projected to improve and reconcile the natural basis of life. One such example of harmful sport is the motor car racing. Aside from the fast thrill, the sport
puts human life at the peak of danger. Apart from that, the fumes and the noise pollution caused by the cars exude another problem which calls for a greater need to protect the environment. The heads of different sports committees should sit down and think
about how they can make the sport a bit environmental friendly rather than thinking ways to rake in money from sponsorship deals.
Cricket- the gentleman’s sport can also raise a slogan against climate change. This is a sport which at first glance does not directly harm the environment but building huge stadiums stretching to vast acre of lands again conflict the long overdue debate
of conflict between sports and environment.
The sport of Cricket is also affected by the global changes as untimely rains and floods force the international cricket schedule to shift to other places potentially losing millions of dollars from the sponsors.
The issue is rather urgent to be pondered upon especially in cricket crazy nations such as the sub continent where major climate shifts have made the territory a place for frequent earthquakes, floods, and tsunamis. The rising sea levels all around the world
could displace millions of people in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 have already
seen natural disasters at a large scale. The 2004 tsunami washed away the Galle cricket stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 demonstrating the fact that how easily a cricket infrastructure and facilities can be crumbled due to the climatic changes.
Cricket is a simple game which includes a bat and a ball and human beings. The glamour, the razzmatazz and the advertising shimmer that surrounds the game is the main thing that makes the game so complex that it can threat the climate.
The frequent games that are scheduled year around should be trimmed down to make the three forms of the game a bit more special. The players won’t need to travel more frequently and they can take trains between cities. The cricket boards must take measures
to make the game more green, introduce artificial pitches which do not need gallons of water. Also, the boards can encourage their sponsors and broadcasters to promote the slogan of
“protecting the environment” through environment friendly advertisements.
If individual cricket boards start doing their bit for their own natural resources, then collectively a major change could be seen in a bid to save the environment.
