How can edward and bella have a kid when edward is a vampire and bella a human?

in other questions it says thay edward and bella cant have a kid. But now in breaking dawn, bella is preggers with renesme. how did she conceive renesme when edward is a vampire and she is a human? I read some answers on yahoo, and they said that edward cant have a kid cause he is a vampire?
