How can hydrogen oxide be toxic?

I think that if it enters your lungs then it can cause suffocation, but other than that why is everybody accusing hydrogen oxide of being bad. I mean it covers about 3/4 of the surface of the earth.

  1. There's one oxide of hydrogen called water(H2O)vast quantities can over dilute necessary necessary blood ions, but generally water is harmless and needed. The other common one is H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide)This is a toxic chemical which in a concentrated form will blister and burn animal tissue and as high test peroxide(HTP)is usable as an ingredient of rocket fuel.

  2. Well, p**p Master, it depends on what kind of hydrogen oxide you're talking about.  Hydroxide is OH - one oxygen and one hydrogen - and it is very reactive, so it can be really dangerous;  it can cause burns, etc, if it gets on your skin.

Water, however, is H2O - two hydrogens and one oxygen - so its much  more stable, and much less dangerous.  Some people refer to it as monoxygen dihydrogen, or something similar, and write about how dangerous it is, but it's really just a joke at people who don't understand.

  3. water intoxication

  4. Other than suffocating you, too much HOH can cause your mineral balances to get out of whack. Potassium levels regulate the passage across membranes! People die from this sort of thing.

The "NEW" directions do NOT call for as much water intake as once was deemed appropriate!
