Question:

How can i achieve a "piano black" finish on my hard plastic dash?

imagine a black ipod, or black apple notebook... maybe a zune...

is that just a bunch of polish? any sanding involvoed? clear coat?

  1. It's coated with lacquer.  I don't think you can do that to a dashboard.


  2. I have to agree in part with answer 1. First of all any COATING you apply to a vehicle dashboard would have to be compatable with the substance/formulation, of the plastic initially used. Second, and assuming you won't cover it, the dash is subject to temps as high as 140 degrees in full sun, unless you happen to be in Alaska. Third. The dash, or any part of it may have some texturing in the molding process, which would negate any GLASS like effect. Fourth and final thought is any glare that happens when in sunlight, while driving.

       While not at all a fan, why not just polish the dash, or armour all it?
