I have an exterior outlet attached to the house that I can tap off of, and I know to pipe the exterior wire 14" below ground to code. I just do not know how to put the outlet in the middle of the yard with nothing to attach to.

  1. You could probably go to a local home center and find some type of weatherproof box you would mount to a pole. You want it mounted at least 3 feet off of the ground.

  2. As previously mentioned, electricity is a harsh mistress.

If you can't be persuaded to take the contractor way out, then there are "exterior housings" you can purchase, which can simply sit on a pole or the same pipe the wiring is run through and are waterproof, please see the electrical section of your local hardware store or home depot or lowes or diy or the same for the actual selection and various options.

I would suggest going all-out on safety and that before you use the wires to that particular outlet you know what it is capable of.  It may save time and effort to run a new circuit of the needed amperage directly from your breaker box, and I also would suggest making sure you get something with ground fault circuit interruption(gfci) which is probably already in place in other areas like the bathrooms and kitchen.

  3. I do  not know what your yard looks like but put a stob or pole where you would like  the outlet.  something like a bird house or such is always nice.  Mount the outlet to this and you know the rest to do.  any above ground use conduit or pvc pipe before the box and use gfi.

  4. Hire a liscened electrician... wiring is not a hobby ... it is dangerous and should be handled by a professional..

    sorry...

  5. simple, dig a three ft hole where you want the outlet place a pressure treated4x4 in it and fill in around the wood with concrete cut off the top at the appropriate height and mount  the box to that  be sure to run the conduit from underground up the post before you pour in the cement

  6. You need a licensed electrician.

110V AC is NOT your friend.

In fact, 110volts can kill when handled improperly.

You need special protective breakers and other hardware to go along with the support mechanisms for your yard outlet plus the installation will have to pass your local electrical inspector's test.

    Get a licensed electrician.

A little money for a job properly done is a LOT cheaper than getting killed.

  7. Geeze folks, the person who asked the question seems to know HOW to wire. All the BS about license etc doesn't help. He is going to do it  according to NEC.

Locate a 4x4 treated lumber post. Sink it into some cement.

Run your undergraoudn cable near it, finish the run with conduit and attach the box. GFI outlet is good.
