Get an account with etsy.com its for handcrafters and artisans. To drive traffic toyour site try Traffic Swarm. I use it and have been getting a ton of hits.

First I would have a decent website built for yourself so that you can build credibility for your name. After you do this get your paintings online through Craig's list so people can see them quickly. I would also write some press releases on your self and your paintings using target keywords and you can distribute them for free online through various free press release distribution sites.

You have to start with a website because customers will want to research you before they buy from you.
