  1. Where are you living? If you are an Indian and living in India, you must apply for it, in any of the passport offices in India. If already have one and you are presently abroad and it requires renewal, you may as well approach the Indian Embassy/High Commission in the country where you are now residing.

  2. If you are trying to get a new Indian passport then you need to go to the Indian Consulate where you currently live and apply for a Indian Passport. You will need to take your old passport with you and a few passport size photo's. You can also download the application form online.

  3. Go to the website of Indian embassy in the country you are living in and apply for a new passport. Usually takes 3-4 weeks.

  4. Not at all. It is easier getting a new passport if you had a previous ECNR passport and are abroad, for whatever reason - even renewal or duplicate.

Approach the nearest consulate and ask for an emergency duplicate passport. When you provide your photo and previous passport details, they'll hand you your new handwritten passport in the name of the Ministry of External Affairs...

You return to India and apply for a renewal, it may cost you less, but it will certainly take more time and be more troublesome...

  5. did you report le loss of your passport to the police, that is the first thing you must do, get a copy of the report, do it soon, so that your passport will not be missused against you; take the police report,to the consulate of India nearest you residence, here is the link of consulates in the US at this page:
