  1. If you want to officially seek asylum just find a federal agent and tell them that you've come to the US out of fear of the government from the country you live in and they should help you (they may be a jackass, but they should still help you). If i were you though, once you get in JFK just get your stuff and go. Seeking asylum takes time and they hold you in a cell until you're approved.

    Edit:

Actually I wasn't basing my answer off of that movie, and in any case...Tom Hank's character wasn't put in a cell in that movie...he just had to stay in the international part of the airport...I was basing my answer off of reports like this...

  2. The above answer is wrong.  It's based on the "Terminal" movie.  However Tom Hank's situation is different: he was not allowed in because his country ceased to exist.  The guy above just doesn't know what he's talking about.

If your country still exists (unless it ceases to exist during your flight, just as in Tom Hank's movie), and if you have a valid visa and passport, odds are you will get in just as a normal traveller would.  Unless, of course, they have reasons to suspect you are not intending to go back: for instance, if you don't carry enough money, if you are moving your whole family with you, if you don't have a stable job or family to go back to in your home country, if you don't have hotel reservations or if you cannot indicate where precisely you intend to stay while in the US etc.  If they take you for a terrorist or if they have any reason to believe you are terrorist-related, they won't let you in either.  But anyways, criticisms apart, let's get back to the essentials.

Once in, if you have enough money, you can hire a lawyer that specializes in immigration and start your ayslum seeking proceedings.

If you do not have enough money, you can find NGOs that dedicate to asylum seekers, and they'll guide you trhough the paperwork and supervise your proceedings.

Now, what you do not need to do is be detained in an airport cell...
