  1. Tell her loads of facts about rats then she will see your very responsible and can look after one

  2. First of all, know that you should never get a single rat. Rats are highly social animals and should always be kept in same s*x pairs or groups. I convinced my parents by doing TONS of research into their care and I highly recommend you do the same:

  3. tell her that you'll do absolutely everything and that you'll keep it in your room at all times and you'll really apreciate it if she'll let you have one. rats will also make a great pet.

  4. Just trying to make her do what you want isn't the way to go about it; she is your mother after all. Try asking her why she doesn't want a rat. She may have some very valid reasons--your family doesn't have enough money for another pet, she's deathly afraid of rodents, etc.--or else her concerns may be based on misconceptions, and you will then be able to direct her to a source of information that explains why it isn't true.

  5. Rats are absolutely fabulous pets!

I have had them for years and they are the most darling, loving little creatures!

This is exactly what you tell your mum:

Having a pet rat will be a great opportunity for you to learn responsibility. A rat is quite easy to take care of, inexpensive to feed and care for, and an extremely intelligent and friendly animal. They are only stinky when they havent had their cage bedding changed (which you will stay on top of changing it weekly.) Having a rat would enable you to learn how to care for an animals and, thus, teach you lessons on being responsible which will play into other areas of your life (like school and obligations.) You understand all the aspects of having a rat and have educated yourself from researching on the Internet and feel fully prepared to be a responsible pet owner.

    Good luck!

  6. Since you have access to a computer, see if you can find any rat clubs in your area. People that raise rats to sell as pets are very picky about who their rats go to and if you are sincere in your desire to take on the responsibility for a pet rat, you might want to spend some time talking to these people. If they think you are ready for a pet rat, they may talk to your mother for you. And don't forget, where there are people that raise rats, there are also rat shows - maybe you could find one in your area and have your mom take you there. It's a great place to find out all the practical aspects of rat keeping.

      Good luck!
