How can i back up my own personal dvd collection on my macbook?

i want to burn the dvds i own to my macbook so i can plug it into my tv to play them back also to take them to watch on the go without having to take 50 dvds with me. how would i record a copy to my macbook so i could watch it? could i make a library of my movies?
