  1. You know that when you become a mangaka it's not like getting a job at the bottom and working your way up right? You just need talent and Mangaka's assisstents usually are people who the mangaka knows personally.

  2. Well, to become a mangaka's assistant you would need to be really good and move to japan. to get better, get some instruction books on drawing from the library and practice, Practice, PRACTICE!!!

  3. You need to put together a portfolio.  Are you Japanese and/or do you speak it?  If not, I would recommend Learning Japanese.  Also, you have to move to Japan, obviously.  Send your portfolio (samples of your work and skils), to the Mangaka you are interested in being an apprentice to and if they like your work and need your skills, then you should be able to become their assistant. Again, speaking Japanese and living in Japan are a must. Regardless of what other people say,  you don't have to be Japanese. However if you are planning to become a mangaka someday, I would recommend developing a Japanese pen name, as Japanese readers, the largest consumer of Manga, are much more likely to read a Manga from a Japanese Artist, due to American Mangaka's bad track record. I speak Spanish (but am not yet fluent) and English and again plan to learn Japanese. When you finally get to creating your Manga, I would first get it translated into Japanese (if you aren't and don't speak it), and also draw it from right to left as this is how things are read in Japan. In terms of getting better, I can tell you from experience...PRACTICE!!!! And also, I would recommend Art school.  I am going to attend Art School, and Major in Illustration or Animation (The Academy of Art University, just in case you wanted to know). One more thing, I'm a big mythology and folklore buff, and have studied many different cultures and there mythologies including Japan's. So understanding the Japanese culture is also a must in order to be a successful Mangaka. So good luck to you, and I hope you achieve your dream. ¡VIVA LA MANGA!
