  1. slide your feet in short choppy steps. get quick feet by doing jump rope, line jumps ect. also try to guard the best player on the court, that's the best way.

  2. great defenders stay low. It may hurt but wall sits will do the trick!

  3. Some basics:

    - Stay in front of them and try to disrupt their rhythm.

    - Give them space if they're fast, less spacing if they're good shooters.

    - Force them to their weaker side or hand.

If you're defending a big men the best option is get in good position and try not to let them get inside the paint.

Warning: Do not watch Bruce Bowen unless you want to get in a fight with the opposing player.

  4. study your opppenets tendencys

force them to take difficlut shots

incrcrease foot speed and play alot agaisnt great offensive players

watch players like bruce bowen, and shane battier,  james posey(escpecially him shutting kobe down during finals)

  5. Slide, never cross, your feet.

Watch his/her stomach a lot. You won't get lost on head/pump fakes.

Stay on your toes, not your heals.

Stay low to the ground, but ready to explode up at all times.

Communicate with your team mates  (This very well may be the most important thing)

If you get beat off the dribble, find a point on the floor where you want to catch them and beat them to that spot. Force them to turn there.

When the shot goes up, find anyone and throw a body on them. Get between them and the basket.

Keep your hands active, moving, and palms either facing the opponent or the ceiling.

Play to the opponents strong hand. (ex. if your opponent is left handed, keep a hand in on the left side of their face in their shooting pocket) Open up to "let" them go to their weak side.

And last, but certainly not least, HUSTLE!!
