  1. Remember this!

Put the pressure in your thumbs and make a nice stroke!

And half is between the ears

  2. In my opinion, putting is about hitting a target.  Part of it is a guessing game.  If you can putt where you are looking, then you are a pretty decent putter.  I practice putting at home in my living room.  I putt to the legs on my coffee and end tables.  The carpet is fairly plush.  You won't get lost in it, but everytime I vacuum, the breaks change so I have to adjust when I'm practicing putting.  The only reason I putt on the practice green at the club is to get the speed of the greens before I start my round.  It's helped because my putting has improved.

  3. First and foremost find a putter which feels good in your hand .When you stroke the ball it should feel balanced and solid even on off center hits. Lastly, you should have confidence in the club.. Next learn to " read greens". How does the grain run? Are you putting with it, against it or across it?The green always looks shinier when you are putting with the grain, darker when putting against the grain. If you are putting across the grain you must determine if the grain will cause the putt to break left or right.. As these are factors you must know how hard to hit the putt for the distance you need. You learn this on the practice green. Hitting with the grain takes less power than hitting against it.You must extrapolate how much less or more power you need. When you practice distance don't hit 2 balls to the same target in succession. Hit a long putt, then a shorter one always varying so you emulate what you will be finding on the course. Finally accuracy. A good, sound stroke with a complete follow through, hitting through the ball rather than at it will enhance accuracy. Once you do all of this and understand the art of reading a green, you will find that you have become a better putter.

  4. practice

  5. Welcome to the mysteries of golf...

One thing that really helped me become a 3 handicap is reading the greens. Alot of people will just read the putt from behind the ball. Get all angles (even though this might take some time its worth it) Get below the hole if you can... that means if there is a bunker hop in it and read the put from ground level. The break will be much clearer from this angle. Also greens are made to drain water. Look at where the water drains and it should give you hints on the break.

Another key in putting is using your shoulders to putt not your wrist. A great way to get the right motion is this. On the practice green line up your put and take your normal stance. Instead of having your arms in a V like formation put them together so your elbows touch and they are pointing straight at the ground (its ok if they are angled a bit). If done properly this drill will force you to use your shoulders. If you try to use your wrists you will immediatly feel it and get a weak and off target putt. Hope this helps! Hit em straight

  6. There are many books on putting better.  You can find them online.

Practice distance control is my suggestion.  If you leave your putts closer to the hole you will have a better chance of making the second one.
