  1. Check with your town to see if they require a degree; some do, some don't.  If you have military service, you usually do not need to obtain a degree. You will next need to take the civil service test and then you will be hired by the police department and sent to the academy.

*You don't need to get a criminal justice degree, you just need ANY degree for state police.*

    Best of luck.

  2. Things have changed from when I first went to the academy-but don't bother too much with criminal justice unless your department demands it. Departments don't need criminal justice as much-It's most often only used to weed out undesireables. What you need to know they will teach you in the academy. Take courses in business-social sciences and language arts. In this day and age we need bi-lingual officers who can fill out a shift paperwork, assign patrols, understand cultural and social designs, write a simple sentance and be computer literate. If you want to be a cop-think ahead. What will you need to make promotions within the department. Go in that direction.

  3. Go to that department's website and all the requirements are right there or call and speak to a recruiter. It is that easy.

  4. Become a wanka

  5. If possible, you should attend college. You don't have to have a degree in criminal justice. You should work toward a degree in a field that interests you, but that would also be beneficial for a career as a law enforcement officer. There are many such fields. Psychology, Acounting, Communications, and Computer Science are just some examples of good choices. Some police departments do not require any college. Many departments do. College will also usually help you get promoted to a supervisor or investigatior position after you get hired. You should visit the websites of the towns that you are interested in working for. If they do not have a website or if the website does not answer all your questions, simply call the department and ask to speak with someone that can answer your questions. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information about becoming a police officer.

  6. Apply at the Town Hall for a police dispatcher position and if you do well, the dept. may sponsor you for an academy.

  7. Most places in the U.S Require 2 years of school before they will even allow you to take the patrollmans exam.  It may be different where you live,  best you check with the department

Being a police officer has been my dream job for ever and i wish you luck

  8. I guess it will depend on what state you live in. Florda has a minimim state requirement for any one entering law enforcement, Go to the town you want to work for and ask then what there requirement are, and fill out a applcation, but you are going to have to be smarter than this question.
