  1. Generally, you're going to need some tape of you doing some voice over stuff that you can leave with agents, casting directors, or anyone else who might be able to help.

If you're interested in doing commercials or radio spots, tape some of them that seem cool and then record yourself doing the same voice over lines.

If you want to do voices for animation, tape yourself doing a bunch of different scenes from cartoons.  If you are able to imitate voices or do a variety of different voices, show it on the tape.  Range and variety are very important when casting for animation because actors are often called on to play more that one role in a show and the voices need to sound different.

Combine all your stuff onto a single tape, CD, mp3, what ever and start sending it out.  There are agents and agencies that specialize specifically in voice work and you want to get to them.  Also, animation studios (Disney, Nickelodeon) and ad agencies often have their own casting directors to hire voice actors so target them as well.  It really helps to know people in the industry so if you have a friend of a friend of a friend who knows somebody, now is the time to start asking for favors.

Is there any particular reason this interests you?  I mean, have you always shown a talent for doing imitations, funny characters, that sort of thing?  Do people tell you have a really compelling speaking voice or sound good over the phone?

It's funny you ask because I happen to work in the animation industry myself (not as an actor), but I am based mostly in Los Angeles, not New York.  Good luck.

  2. I suppose you are referring to "voice overs". Try a radio station doing commercials.

You could also hire a talent agent to get you positions.

  3. get an agent and get them to find places to audition to be like a cartoon character voice or as mentioned commercials
