  1. There is only one cure for people who work like this:

Action what you touch when you touch it. If you pick up the first thing on your desk, action it and file it... put it away. Then the next and so on.

As for a filing system... Use only alpha or date order filing systems. Nothing else.

At home do the same thing, except instead of filing, de-clutter. when you de-clutter you won't have much to get jumbled and every time you need something, you can see it.

  3. Perhaps purchase some folders (with labels to write on) and a hanging file holder to help with organizing paperwork/mail.  The local stationery store such as staples, office depot or office max (or even target) should have those types of items.  With organization, they recommend the motto, 'a place for everything and everything in its place'.  The tv show 'clean house' suggests going through items and having a yard sale with items no longer wanted or needed.  In the very least, perhaps donate them to 'good will' or another non profit.  Decluttering the work space can help declutter the mind as it really makes a difference with me too :)

Please do consider purchasing a criss-cross paper shredder (please be mindful if have children and/or pets) if don't already have one for paperwork/documents no longer needed but contain personal information.

There are professional organizers (for a fee though ;) that are supposed to have formal training.  Here's a website:  http://www.napo.net
