How can i become more social meet newer people and expand my social circle?

i was always social as a kid up to mid teens where my confidence hit rock bottom causing me to be less outgoing & sociable but three years on and i feel more confident and willing to meet new people.

tips and places where i can meet new people please =]

Getting a job in retail's a good way.  Clothing store or department store.  

That way you could make some money AND meet new peeps.  Part time of course, if you're still in school.
