How can i begin a racing career?

Question

i am 19 but have no racing backround. However i would like to start racing sometime in the near future. The reason i say near future is because im currently in school to become a pilot and once im out ill have have a decent paying job so money wont be that big of an issue. I would like to race touring cars and maybe even off road rally cars but i have no clue on what the best racing schools would be to prepare me for this kind of racing or what kind of racing to start out in so i can eventually work my way up to work my way up to racing BMW touring cars or WRX rally cars

Once i've heard an interview of a german racer who advised kids to begin with carting. He said that's exactly where he was discovered. But i think it depends on where you live...
