If you go to about.com and look under the DIY projects in the saltwater fish section you will find a guide to making your own aquariums. I think it also will give you a calculator to figure the required thickness of your walling material. There isn't any difference between fresh water and marine aquariums as far as construction goes, so don't sweat that it is listed as a salt water guide if you are looking to do a fresh water tank.
