  1. Hay bales are a good idea...if someone has barrels from barrel racing or something you could use those on their sides with poles on either side to stablize them...but they are pretty wide & tall...i dunno what your jumping...you could also take 4 1ft pieces of 2 x 4 and make X's these will make great cavaletti holders...now all you need are poles...like cedar rails...or jump poles... even thick PVC pipe from your local hardware store...

  2. Bamboo or PVC pipe works well.

  3. If you want real jumps they are not that expensive to make...

    1 4x4 - 8 feet long  - cut in half (so you have 2 - 4' high posts) ($10)

    1 2x6 - 12 feet long - cut into 8 18" pieces ($5)

s***w the 18" boards in a pinwheel around the bottom of each post

    these are your standards.

Drill holes in the posts to place your jump cups. ($10-$20)

All you need now are 3 rails (2 to make an X and one for a ground line)

Plumbing supply store has PVC pipe - ($8-15 depending on width and length)

Get a small can of paint from the "reduced" section of the paint store or recycle left over paint and you have a jump for about $50!

You'd be amazed how many country folk have the above stuff just lying around in sheds /garages.

Please stay away from cinder blocks and any stuff that will hurt you or your horse if you fall on it! Broomsticks are too short and really hard for horses to see- they will also splinter if broken and may impale you or your horses.

    Stay Safe!

    Good Luck

  4. Plastic barrels (they use them a lot on farms)

Crates ( eg milk crates) because they stack very nicely and you can adjust heights

    fence posts and rails

    straw or hay bales

    traffic cones

    tyres

  5. Hay bales are good, just keep a snug rein on your horse so they don't decide they are hungry instead. xD.

    I usually use logs.

Then again I only jump for fun.

    Good luck!

  6. Two plastic watering cans ---  (or something simular e.g. petrol cans,) filled with a little bit of water to keep them stable, and then with a wooden log, (thin or slightly wide,) works.

Hay bales --- but only if your horse is not going to be tempted to eat them.

If you find any tree stumps --  they work with a log or something resting on top of them.

Barrells --- they are fun as a cross country jump.

Also, if you can't find a log to use as a pole, then you could use a sweeping broom, (but nothing with a sharp end incase your horse brushes past it.)

    Have fun :)

  7. Here is a link hope it helps

you could probably make them teller if youd like

  8. hay bales

    rubber tyres without the rims

    pine posts

    44 drums

    plastic bins

  9. cinder blocks do OK but I wouldn't recomend them because (liek one person said) you can easily hurt you or the horse if you hit one or fell off.

You can use hay bales, barrels, logs, baskets, tubs, wood blocks, and once side can be put on a fence rail for the standards. PVC pipes do well for poles...you can paint the o put colorful tape on them to make them more noticable.

If you have a "handy man" around there are plans for making standards, you just have to buy the cups.

  10. Please don't use cinder blocks or something that could easily damage yours horses legs. If you have some hay bales that got moldy or damaged you could use those.

  11. you can get a long toilet roll and get 2 big card board boxes and shuv hole in the side and put the toilet roll end in them but it makes a very small jump unless you have really tall boxes
