How can i cancel an indian passport?

My wife applied for her passport before marriage. But before getting passport, she got married to me and relocated to my town from her town. At the time of the delivery of her passport in the old address, it was found that her name is printed incorrectly in the passport. Hence it was not delivered to her. Now we need to cancel that passport and reply from our new address. How is it possible.

A practical way is that first get the name corrected in the Passport. After getting it done, let the passport expire and don't renew it. It will give a decent burial to the passport. This is because in case (in future) you need Indian passport, the record will be decent also. If your wife requires US passport, let her apply. American government is not interested in a passport of origin. You need not cancel origin (Indian) passport to get an American one. But don't use Indian passport anywhere after getting US passport. If you do, that  will be an offence.

You can not cancel an IP. Only RPO can do it.

She should collect her ppt and can ask for correction in her name.

She can apply for fresh booklet due to marriage for addition of name of husband, change in name / surname etc., present address etc.

This is not a case of reply from your new address. She always need her passport- good or bad.

u dont have to cancel it but if u want u could call the passport place. I bet they will cancel it for u if u talk nicely or something....

Why on earth do you wish to cancel the passport?Explain the whole situation clearly through a letter and ask the issuing office to

advise the procedure for issue of a new passport for your wife with the correct name

indicating her marital status.

You could also find out the procedure from the regional passport office in your town.
