How can i catch freshwarer shad?

i was wondering if there is a rig or something that i can catch fresh water shad that are around 3-5 inches long in lakemartin about 20-30ft deep. is there bait i can use to attract them?

My suggestion would be to crumple up some crackers to bring them up to the top, wait a few minutes then throw your cast net.  Another suggestion, just throw the cast net and if you don't get any shad, then tie an additional 20 foot rope to your cast net and throw it.  Who knows.....it could work.
