How can i change/hide my ip address?

Question

I was banned from a game and i need to change my ip. Im connected through a wireless router and im using a laptop.

I tried that ipconfig/ release thing and went to properties and changed it manually,,then clicked set ip automatically but it just set to the one i had before..

help plz?

If you have a dynamic IP from your ISP then you may need to hookup your laptop directly to the modem and then release from there.  When you release behind the router you are only releasing your internal network IP which does nothing for what the World sees you as.

ipconfig will only release / renew your local IP address, not the IP address of your router/modem, which is what you need to change.

Simple method: unplug your router/modem, then plug it back in. Make sure to unplug the device which obtains an IP address from your ISP (most likely the device which plugs into the wall). You may have to wait for 5-15 minutes for the IP address to be completely released.

If you have a static IP (you most likely don't), you're hosed.

Edit: You can set up java (or any program) to use proxy servers, assuming it implements SOCKS correctly. Try tor if you REALLY need a proxy that ensures anonymity.
