Join one of the Yahoo chat rooms and start typing away. You don't need to add anybody to your contact list for that.

To do that you have to join the chat rooms. In the menu go to Messenger>Yahoo Chat > Join a room to enter Yahoo chat.

Or you can just ask your friends for their IDs and add them to your contact list.
