  1. Carry everything out of your room and start afresh. Get in there with plenty of elbow grease, starting at the top (ceiling) and working your way down. Wash everything down with very warm soapy water with a little grime cutter added to the bucket you're using. You'll have to empty it several times. After the ceiling, then the walls, then scrub that floor until you can see yourself in it, then follow up with a good floor wax. If you have carpeting in there (I hate carpeting), then either tear it out with your parents permission or have it steam cleaned or you can do that yourself by renting a steamer at a Wal-Marts or K-Marts near you. As you're cleaning, think about where you are going to put your stuff when you get it all cleaned up and ready to put in place. Which you will do or else this whole project is pointless. You have to clean all of your belongings, period. In order to gain space, think about climbing the walls, as you'll be doing that anyway. What I mean by that is that you need shelving a lot. Have shelves inside your closet, too. It will help you to keep everything organized after this. Use Windex & paper towels and clean the windows a couple of times inside and out. Don't forget to clean all light fixtures. And that closet. For wooden furniture, spray it with Pledge and wipe evenly until dry with a soft cloth. Wash all of your bed linens and flip your mattress over. You'll swear that you have a new bed when you do this. Ahhh, I can smell the luxury now :-) Hey, if you have access to an outdoor clothesline, use it! It really does make your bed linens smell like sunshine. Now, all you have to do is to dust and vacuum it good once a week and you'll be a happy camper in there. Other ideas you may want to consider are buying a few of those large plastic containers with lids on them to put stuff in & put in your closet. Put whatever you can under your bed. Hey, show off that guitar by hanging it on the wall!

  2. shove everything in your closet :). OK OK, just time and some endurance, that's the way to get it done!

  3. Most of time the reason why things get messy is because there isn't a system in place for how to handle daily "stuff" that comes into your life. Take a look at what is currently cluttering your room. Then take some time to sit down and think about how to create "zones" in your room for the stuff that comes into your life. For example, have a music zone in your room for your guitars and any other music-related stuff. Create a homework zone. Think about how you want to use your room and what different zones you need. The biggest part of keeping things clean and organized is just making sure that you have a place for everything.

  4. Try using baskets or something to store things in, but look neat on the shelf
