I am 35 wks pregnant and trying to figure out a way to tie together a baby shower & a Welcome Home gathering for my husband, who is a soldier and will coming home on Aug. 15th.

I would like to have it on the 16th, something small with family and friends, and the place will most likely be at our favorite local ice cream shop ( he has mentioned how much he misses our family outings there!).

I need ideas on how to join the two events together. What are your suggestions on things like: which should we concentrate on first, what to do to keep guests occupied, etc.

* also, the space in the ice cream shop is small*

Thank You!

  1. Would it be possible to have the event at home but decorate like an ice cream shop and with family photos on the walls like it was the decor of the ice cream shop. . . and then serve all kinds of ice cream from the ice cream store.  Have an ice cream Sunday bar, get banan's for banana splits, sprinkles and the works.

Option 2 - start at home with a family welcome for you husband and a welcome to the newest member of the family and have everyone head to the ice cream shop for a sweet celebration.

    Have fun.

  2. I like the idea about the "Welcome home Daddy and Baby" party!

I'd skip having the party at the ice cream shop- they probly won't want you tying up their store for a few hours to have your larger party- how about just picking up their ice cream for dessert for your party at home. I'm sure your hubby will want to spend time at home and not have to run around everywhere anyway. then you guys can go there together some night by yourselves.

  3. Hello, it sounds like the baby will be here by the time your husband gets home. What I would do is make it a welcome home party for Baby and Daddy. You can still play your games for the shower and socialize as well for your husband. In my family we always have coed baby showers and usally after the baby is born.

    Hope this helps.

  4. do welcome home  first at the ice cream shoppe, and the shower at home that way he can relax and unwind, and still partake in the shower if he chooses to.
