  1. you do not need a disk to set this up !!

simply enter the modem by typing in the browser

    192.168.1.1

once in the routers page enter your account settings , make sure he dhcp in on and you should be all set

  2. 2WIRE is likely your 1701HG. Especially if signal strength is high.

Have you managed the [AT&T/SBC monster] box yet, using the first computer? Go through the settings - and note the name. Use the browser and address of the 1701HG [may be http://192.168.0.1]. You may need to reset to factory settings.

A quick Google search failed to find specific instructions or a manual, but AT&T created the thing and they do work like most wireless routers.

As for the 2nd computer's lack of wired connectivity, try using the same cable & port on the hub that works with computer #1. If that fails, you have an ethernet card setup problem. check My Computer | Properties | etc. for hardware driver problem.

    Good luck!

More info, good! I found your router at http://www.2wire.com/?p=106 and am looking at it now.

WEP is enabled and the password (WEP key) is on the bottom next to the serial number. Get into the Home Network tab. The "Network Name" is your SSID, the name you would want to log on to with your wireless computer. I'd advise you to CHANGE the name from 2WIRE024 or whatever it is, to something very unique like TORVALDS (a nice guy who wrote a kernel program in 1991). If you can't read the encription key, you can change it to another at the "Use custom encryption key" radio button. The one in the book is 4119627002 - or 11 digits. You can use another set of alphas if it works that way. You will enter whatever you choose AT THE COMPUTER for WEP setup.

The link to download the manual is http://www.2wire.com/index.php?p=266 and you want the USER guide, page 27 figure 13.

    Again, good luck!
