How can i connect 2 computers to one cable modem?

i need to use 2 CPUs for a project but i only have 1 cable modem, how do i connect the 2nd computer to the modem

Normally cable modems doesn't have a switch build in, so you are required to buy either a switch or a router, in order to preform such an action.

Go out and get a router, linksys, netgear, dlink, whatever brand.  There are instructions included with them.  A switch typically won't work because the cable company will only lease out 1 dhcp address to you and the first PC on the switch will get that address, the other won't.  The only way this will work is with a router, and they have built in switches.
