How can i connect 2 routers to 1 modem?

I have a Linksys N router and a Netgear G router and i wanted to know how i can get one to work so i can have one connect to my xbox and one to my pc without and lag.

  1. I don't completely understand your question so I'll try to answer it the best I can.

    To connect a modem (ethernet port) to 2 routers you need:

    1 Switch (At least 2 or more ports available)

    3 Ethernet Cables

    1 Ethernet Cable goes from the modem to the switch, then 2 cables come out of the switch, 1 for each router.

    However, cable modems only have 1 internet ip address (Unless you are paying for more than 1 ip address, and make sure your modem can assign multiple internet ip addresses if you wish to have internet for each router). This means, either the linksys N will get an internet ip address or the Netgear G will. Not BOTH!


  2. Use the linksys n as it is faster than G. Plug the modem port into your modem. Then plug in the Xbox as computer 1 and your computer as computer 2, unless your computer is wireless.
