How can i construct a good water level sensor?

  1. I would construct a manometer. That would be the simplest way. Go to http://www.komar.org/faq/manometer/ for an example.

    You can then use the pressure from the bottom of your vessel to derive the level.


  2. edit your question to be more specific because i dont know what you are trying to use it for. the simplest is a ruler. if you need to watch it remotely, hit up the junkyard and grab the float sensor (sender) out of a gas tank and the fuel gauge. these can be powered of of a simple 5 or 12v ac adapter (it should not be hard to find out which voltage the make/model uses) from radio shack. gas tanks are shallow so pick something big if necessary.
