1. i've always went to public school and i started my first year in private catholic school......*sign* you'll survive

  2. The kid in school makes fun of you? Do you attend a private school or something? Frankly, a public school isn't going to be better--there is always at least one bully around to make fun of others.

You have to have some better reasons for wanting to attend public school than simply, "I just like it better." Figure out what you like about it and if those things that you like about it are better for you. I mean, you can't just eat Twinkies all the time instead of stuff that's good for you simply because you like Twinkies better. There has to be a __good__ reason to go to public school for him to switch you.

I'd say figure out what you don't like about this private school and just sit down with your dad and talk about the problems and ask for help in finding solutions. Going to public school is only one solution among perhaps many. Focus on solving the problem, not on the solution you want.

  3. Most parents were educated in the underfunded public school system, and so are not smart enough to homeschool their own children.

Children who receive one-on-one homeschooling will learn more than others, giving them an unfair advantage in the marketplace. This is undemocratic.

How can children learn to defend themselves unless they have to fight off bullies on a daily basis?

Ridicule from other children is important to the socialization process.

Children in public schools can get more practice "Just Saying No" to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.

Fluorescent lighting may have significant health benefits.

Publicly asking permission to go to the bathroom teaches young people their place in society.

The fashion industry depends upon the peer pressure that only public schools can generate.

Public schools foster cultural literacy, passing on important traditions like the singing of "Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg..."

Homeschooled children may not learn important office career skills, like how to sit still for six hours straight

  4. I was homeschooled for three years, went to private school for seven, and was FINALLY allowed to go to public school in tenth grade. It is SOO much better there. I had to convince my parents and it took quite a bit of effort...the best thing to do is be mature. Do not jump up and down screaming "But I waaannna!" that will get you nowhere. Look up public schools in your area, and find one that you think you want to go to. Get information on it (how many stars it is, what classes they follow...etc.) Then, being serious, sit down with your dad and explain to him exactly why you want to transfer. Have a notebook or something with all your points so you dont forget. The ones I used were...

Reasons why I should go to public school:

    1. I dont support the concept of uniforms. It doesnt allow me to express myself, and makes the teachers see us more as a group, not individuals. (psychobabble bull****, I know, but it works.)

    2. say the curriculum you follow isnt hard enough and that they dont offer any electives that you are interested in or that could prepare you for college.

    3. The school I researched offered PSEO and College-in-the-schools classes. This allows you to earn college credits in high school so a-you dont have to pay for them and b- you dont have to take them in college

    4. You, Dad, will save money by taking me out of private school.

    5. say you need a broader perspective of life outside your school. that you want to experience a social life like a "normal" kid and go to public school

After, tell him you want to visit. Call and set up a time to tour, and tell him if there is anything he doesnt like about the school, you will reconsider. Chances are once he sees are dedicated and determined you are, he will "think about it." Visitng the school will help him to make the transition. Good luck and I hope he lets you!

  5. I don't know if you can change your parents' minds. I homeschooled my sons and would have continued to do so. In fact, I am sure homeschooling would have been better for them. Each of them, however, has wanted to attend public school during their high school years, and we allowed them to go. I don't think they made the smartest choice for their futures, but it was ultimately their choice.

As for your questions, why not ask them "how could you go to public school". In other words, is there any compromise they would consider. Perhaps you could go part-time taking only classes that they are comfortable with you taking. Maybe they would simply visit the school with you for a further study of the problem without a promise being made on their part that you will attend. I know of one homeschooler whose parents did not approve of his local public school, but were willing to allow him to go to another school in the county.

Perhaps they would be open to allowing you to go on a provisional basis. You attend for one year, and they will reevaluate at year's end. I made it clear to my sons that if they couldn't get good grades at school then they would have to come back home to school.

How long have you been asking for this? Some parents just take a while to warm up to the idea. Be patient.

Good luck. In the meantime, get everything you can out of homeschooling. There are so many pluses to that experience. Enjoy it.

  6. Why would you want to do that? You are in a position that most children don't get to take advantage of. You are an ungrateful, spoiled little ****! You are being handed a gift!

  7. Are you home schooled or in a private school?

Who cares what one kid says, you are wanting to bail out because you are being teased? Do your best at your studies and focus on the future. If you are home schooled the possibilities are endless.

As for the first answerer, I hope she is being sarcastic, otherwise her answer just doesn't make any sense. Truly VERY uninformed. A little research would do the trick.

  8. Just tell him I want to be like a kid and have more freedom and learn about other cultures other than my own
