  1. the number of surfers in the water every given day of the year by comparison to the number of hurt and permanently damaged surfers who were while during surfing is lower than dancers who get hurt dancing. They can keep you under their canopy of safety for only so long but in order for you to grow and be the best citizen you want to be you need to read every day and prove to them that training the brain is the most important thing you can do. In so doing you can ask that for the reward of being a better student and a model human your reward is to enjoy your rest and relaxation time surfing. In that end how can a parent say no?

  2. You can tell them to let you try it for a month. If you get hurt you wont do it again But they will see its not that bad

  3. step 1: de-asianize your parents.

step 2: go to la jolla shores.

step 3: "see look! i'm not hurt!"

  4. wooooo surfing i just had to say that i surf. bring them down to the beach and show them that you are sensible like if it is to big or if there is a huge rip you shouldn't go out tell but the only thing is that you have to sensible

  5. Ask them to pay for 1 lesson so you learn the correct way to surf and how to prevent injuries, you could even ask them to take a lesson with you. Also remind them that it is not a super dangerous sport cause it is in water.

  6. John F is a thorough as usual.  Just getting to the beach is way more dangerous than surfing.

  7. Don't just convince your parents "persuade" them. If you really love the sport then you find ways to play it. If your parents won't let you then you can ask them to watch you while surfing. They would  be very upset at first but I'll bet they'll enjoy it.

  8. Well, I'm going to cut and paste some parts of this answer. So let's get down to the reality of surfing right away.Surfing is an ocean sport. before you decide to surf, decide to know and understand the ocean. Learn to be at home with its currents, rips, undertows and sometimes BIG waves. The original surfers were watermen (and women, both men and women surfed, but certain waves were reserved for royalty). I don't just mean being good at swimming in a pool, the ocean can be very unforgiving. I have seen lots of really good pool swimmers have to get rescued. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave.

Lessons are usually the best way to start, unless you are an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons.

Now, I suspect that you are not really at home in the ocean, or your folks would be cool with you surfing. Perhaps you should spend some time sharpening your ocean skills by swimming in the ocean, body surfing and boogie boarding. There are far too many dangerous people in the water already. They are dangerous to themselves and other surfers. They are the cause of many restrictive anti-surfing rules at many beaches. You don't want to join their ranks, do you?

Get your ocean skills down, and then convince your parents that lessons are a great, safe way to learn the art of surfing. If you are generally responsible in your behavior otherwise, that might help too.

And, you can tell them it is a clean and fun athletic activity. I have been surfing for 42 years. My son surfs, my daughter-in-law surfs, my son-in-law surfs and my five grandchildren (ages 5 through9) are all at various stages of learning. But they are all starting out by building up swimming and ocean skills first.

And you can also tell them that statistically far more persons suffer serious incapacitating injuries every year skiing/snow boarding than do surfing. Same thing goes for fatalities.

  9. just let them know that you will be going with a group of friends EVERY TIME.

trust me that will make them feel better knowing you aren't buy yourself.

let them know that surfing is better than allot of other things like takin drugs stealing cars you get my drift.

if you can get them to go with you a couple of times so they can see first hand thats its not that bad.

and what ever you do if they let you go dont let them down.

and dont bring things up that they dont really know about

eg rip currents sharks all that c**p they dont need to know.

  10. yeah surfing can be a dangerous sport. there are many things that are dangerous that they dont know, so tell them how you will be safe in a few dangers.

rip currents, as you prabably know, take you out to sea. tell them that you know how to get out of them. all you have to do is paddle parallel to shore untul the current stops pulling you. then once you have escaped the current, paddle doward shore. that is all you have to do about rip currents.

there is life in the ocean but tell them that its not likely at all to get attacked by a shark. you would have to be wearing something shiny and bleeding and splashing around in the water like a wounded fish to get a shark to want to eat you.

out in the line up, all the other surfers will help you if you are in any danger. you just have to trust them and they will trust you if anything goes wrong. they are your friends even though you dont know them

i hope this helps. this is how i convinced my mom like 6 years ago and now she lets me go surf in like 50 foot waves if i had the skill and a gun and a jet ski to tow me in. hope this helps. have fun surfing!
