I have 7+ riding experience, i could board where i ride 350 per month she feeds, etc. just need to pay board and vet/dentist etc. plus buying a horse is good now since so many horses are going for sale since people cant afford them are selling them cheap and my instructor even was offored one for free a couple of weeks ago since they didnt have time for the pony. but my parents say they cant pay for it i know we can since my dad spends hundreds a week for golf and even more to play hockey (no im not going to ask him to stop playing!) ..i think if we cut down on things like not blasting ac when we dont need it..and i could cut down on buying name brand clothes like a&f..i mean i wld go to target for gods sakes if it meant i could have my own horse! or stop itunes spending...i would give up like 5 christmases for my own horse too ( thats how i got my laptop i gave up my bday and xmas for only small things for that).....i would give up texting..im only 13 going on 14 so i cant exactly work for money yet but...im really desperate... any ideas? im really willing to try anything im good at negotiating too.. but i dont want to p**s them off either... like i;ve done in past lol ps, my mom wants one too but its the whole $ issue any cutting down costs ideas, or ways to convince them? thanks..

  1. Try horse-sitting for other people at your barn, then try leasing a horse to see if you are truly ready to own a horse. You sound pretty frugal and doing the things you mentioned will help save money. Try being a stable hand/riding instructor/ groom at your barn to get some money. If you can't do that babysitting is good for pay. Starting a savings account will help because you will get interest and your parents will love the idea of you saving money

  2. It took me 10 years to convince my parents to let me get a horse,(started begging when i was 5). I had to sell my 4-wheeler that i had bought with my own money, then to get the remaining amount I watched neighbors animals when they went out of town. I also did A LOT of work for my parents and after almost another year they finally gave in. You have to probe to your parents that you are responsible and that you will take care of your horse and ride it daily, they take up alot of time and are alot of work and can be really expensive to feed. Good Luck!!

  3. Alright, horses can be up to $10,000+. Do you have that money?

Horses are a HUGE responsiblity? Are you sure your ready?

If your parents work, you go to school, and you have no siblings at home or they r at school dont get one. you cant. sorry hunny.

edit; why get it then? if your getting someone else to take care of it.

  4. Ok lets say you get it all planned out and you get a horse, and you have a budget of lets say $750.00 a month. Ok so every thing is good then you get a call "You need to come out right away your horse fell and is hurt badly, the vet is on his way" So you get out there and the vet says he can save your horse but it is a $2,000 suregy and recover bills, uh-oh what can you do? Well your pretty screwed right? Same thing if the horse colicky or losses a lot of shoes. Fact is you need money to buy the horse, vet bills, dentist bills, farrier bills, boarding fees, and $3,000-$4,000 for the "oh-no" things that MIGHT happen.
