  1. Sorry, but I am on your parents side.   My husband is an extremely safe driver and has all the gear, but he was hit head on by a drunk driver and got messed up real bad.   Our friends husband was killed after being hit by a truck while riding his bike.

Yes, you can get hit while driving any vehicle, but your chances of survival are better in a car.

There are many statistics about young drivers, which I'm sure your parents have seen, that are not in your favor.

Your parents are being wise and know it's not the best for you at this time.  They love you.  (I know kids don't want to hear this)

I commend you for saving the money for a vehicle and insurance.  Buy a nice car.

  2. tell them to let you get a bike or ur joinin the marines. lol

  3. I was in the same situation when i was 17 about to be 18. no one wanted me to get a bike but to show i was responsible enough for one, i saved my first 400 bucks and bought safety gear (helmet, gloves, ect) and registered for the motorcycle safety course. im now 18, its 10 months later, and i am getting a Honda VTX 1300. they are proud of me for taking the course, and it is the equivalent of 2 years riding on the road. id say register for the class (although u need a parents consent) and show them you'll be safe. also try to stay away from crotch rockets.

  4. You cant wait three years I am on your parents side and yours. Decisions decisions unfortunately your both right. No matter how safe you are you can never be too safe. Just save up more money then when you turn eighteen buy the coolest bike on the lot. Good luck

  5. I had the same problem like You. But hey Bikers don't cares for anyones permission . >:)

  6. Tell them the reason why you want to buy Motorcycle And yes motorcycle is risky But accidents can happen anytime with any vehicle Not only motorcycle.

  7. tell them that u will be safe and ride responsibaly. buy all the safety gear u need along w/the bike and if u can show them u riding a motorcycle.

  8. HMMMMMMMM......  this is a problem. Moms and dads can be such sticks in the mud. Some how they have this bizarre expectation of their beautifully conceived child alive and well for, HS graduation, College, Marriage, Grand kids etc.

However, I do understand the need to R I D E! In the wind, black ribbon fantasy, endless horizon etc. So......  have mom drive you to the cycle store. Show her the bike you like. I hope it isn't a Kaw Ninja 250. It looks much too formidible even threatening. Show her a Yamaha Virago 250. These are cute and have huge charm factor.

Don't show her a black motorcycle as grandpa told her only tattooed thuggs ride black motorcyles. Let her see a poster showing a couple college kids riding together all smiley and cute. ( a replay of hondas famous and VERY successful ads in Life mag,  circa 1963). Then hit with "aww shucks mom, its so much fun, I'll be a new person and actually feed the dog and do my chores etc".

Good luck. ( ill bet it works, mom's are VERY soft hearted). Then mom will be an ally to work on dad.
